Congratulations to ALL the Bulls teams that attended the 9th Annual Open Team Championship Tournament!

Seniors and JV teams both were 2-2 for the weekend, while the Mighty Mites (Pee Wee) were 2nd place runner up.

Saturday, November 26, 2011 - The Mighty Mites put on a heck of a show Saturday night as they ended in a 3-way tie record of 3-1. That placed them in a three way shoot out against two of the toughest teams there, the Midway Atlanta Wildcats and The Hudson Cobras. Ranked #3, the bulls faced the #2 ranked Midway Atlanta Wildcats first. In standard shootout format, the ball was placed on the 10 yard line and each team was given 4 downs to score. If they did score they would be allowed an opportunity for an extra point. The wild cats struck first by not only scoring but passing in for an extra 2 points giving them an 8-0 lead and putting a great deal of pressure on the Bulls. But fear not, the Bulls answered the call by scoring and passing for an extra 2 as well. In the second round the Wildcats again struck first with scoring and putting in an extra two points to once again take the lead 16-8. But the Bulls would not be denied. They managed to score in three plays and put up an extra two by passing for the extra point conversion. 16-16 is where we stood. In round three the Wildcats had a bit of trouble. A massive defensive hit by Caleb Embry delayed the game a few minutes as officials tended to the Wildcat player that was on the receiving end of his vicious blow. Still the Wildcats were able to score but this time only went for a one point conversion. The Bulls then answered by scoring. Would they go for the tie or the win? Coach Kevin Barber decided to let the team leader and quarterback, Grant Sessums make the call. I have had the pleasures of working with Grant for the past two years and have very quickly come to the realization that he is not one to go for the tie, so he enthusiastically replied "I want to go for the win coach". So with everything on the line Coach Kevin asked what play he wanted to run, Grant made his decision and set out to go to work. The snap was good, the offensive line blocking was excellent, and Grant's pass to Tyler Richmond was on the money yielding a two point conversion to win the first shootout.
No time to celebrate though because up next came the #1 ranked Hudson Cobras. Understand that it was now 7pm. We had played two full games earlier in the day and had just gone through one of the most exciting shootouts ever. Fatigue would now be a big factor. The Bulls won the coin toss and came out swinging managing to score in just three carries. Once again fearless leader Grant Sessums made the decision to go for the nail in the coffin. Once again a perfect snap and great blocking by the offensive linemen. This time however, Grant picked a new target in Tyler Wittish to get the job done with a two point conversion giving the Bulls an 8-0 lead in this shootout. Now for the Hudson Cobras to take over and the Bulls defense to go to work. On their first play, the Cobras only managed to inch out 3 yards. Our defense had played excellent all day long and was in no mood to stop now. For the second play we sent in the head hunters: Dylan Helms, Caleb Embry, Tyler Wittish, Toy Royal, Zach Perkins, and a new comer Ra'Quan "Ray-Ray" Dieffenbacher, all of whom were out for blood! All weekend long these guys gave the opposition's offense nightmares and in this final hour there would absolutely be no exception. The Cobras took the snap and immediately Zach, Troy, and Ray-Ray took control penetrating the O-line as if they weren't even there. With Caleb and Tyler blitzing you could almost anticipate what was coming next. Then someone decided to unleash Dylan Helms. At defensive end Dylan could not be contained and would not be denied. His outside pressure on the quarterback combined with the rest of the defense attack, forced the Cobras quarterback to release the ball early and off target right into the awaiting hands of Deion Watkins,. GAME OVER! BULLS WIN, BULLS WIN, BULLS WIN!

Sunday November 27 - The Wesley Chapel Bulls entered into the championship game facing the Old Fourth Ward Ravens. The Ravens managed to jump out ahead by three touchdowns making it tough for the Bulls to recover. The Bulls, fatigued from the night before, put up a great fight. With the help of their go-to guy Deion Watkins, they managed to score a touchdown on a team that had gone its entire regular season undefeated and without giving up a single point to any of its opponents. In fact the Bulls defense managed to shut down the Ravens in the second half by not allowing a single score and only a couple of first down advancements. The Bulls played tough and with a great deal of heart but in the end ran out of time ending up in second place for the tournament. No one expected this team to place so high in the tournament. What this group of young men managed to do this past weekend was to show us all that hard work and dedication to a goal will yield a great outcome. The members of 2011 Wesley Chapel Bulls Tournament team are each exceptional young men that gave selfless of themselves for the betterment of their team. They practiced, played, won and lost as a family and no matter where they may play in the future they will always remember the 2011 tournament where they won big by playing as a FAMILY!
